Updated Devices Policy (as of 2-25-19)
Daily Materials:
Students will be expected to come to class each day with the following materials:
- Pencil/Pen
- Notebook
- Folder
- Any materials handed out during class
- Device (school-owned Chromebook)
Devices:
~All students need to have an electronic device to use during class. English class this year will be roughly a 99% paperless classroom. This means all assignments, due dates, resources, links, etc. will be online. The majority of assignments will also be turned in online.
~If a student does not have the ability to bring a personal device, the school has a limited supply available for use. The English department shares a mobile device cart for this reason.
~Chromebook usage will be for educational purposes only. If Ms. Gondringer sees or suspects misusage of the Chromebook, the offender will be required to return the Chromebook to the Chromebook cart. The offender will then complete the assignment on paper and type it on their own time. In the case of Chromebook misusage, no paper assignments will be accepted.
*All Chromebooks are numbered. Students will be assigned a number and they must use only that Chromebook for English class. Once the student is finished with the Chromebook, they will return it to the cart in the properly numbered slot and will use the properly numbered cord to plug it in. Failure to do so or misusing the Chromebook in any way will result in the loss of the Chromebook privilege. Should this occur, the student will be required to provide their own accommodations for completing classroom assignments.
Please see the Updated Devices Document for more information on device management.

Grading:
This year, Ms. Gondringer will be utilizing a modified standards-based grading system. All core classes (not electives) will be set up with this system.
The gradebook will be split into two categories : Practice and Assessments
Practice will be all the little assignments, homework, etc. and will be worth a total of 20% of the final grade.
Assessments will be tests, papers, large projects, etc. and will be worth a total of 80% of the final grade.
Each assignment will be graded using standards and rubrics. Each skill assessed in each assessment will be worth 4 points total.
1 = the student is just beginning to develop their skills
2 = the student understands the skill but maybe cannot demonstrate the skill
3 = the student understands and demonstrates the skill at a proficient level
4 = the student goes over and above the standard expected level for their grade level
All assessments are available for redo. All Practice must be completed before an assessment can be redone.
